Most foreigners that visit or live in Haiti is there as exchange student or for project work, still working on trying to build up Haiti after the earthquake 2010. We could still feel the extreme poverty and chaos 6 years later... Most people were desperate for our money to spend. It’s completely understandable with one of the worlds most corrupted governments…
We have travelled a lot in India where trash is an enormous problem, well so is it for Haiti as well. We walked the border from Dominican Republic to Haiti in Dajabon.
From there took us to Cap-Haiten. A big busy city, but as soon as u take the bus 30 min away u will find glorious nature! Dominican Republic and Haiti have the highest mountains in the Caribbean.
What attracted us to Cap-Haiten more then to see Haiti overall were the Citadelle Laferrière they have since the French tried to invade them.
The citadel is 910 m up on a mountain and gives u one of the most magical wives u can see!
You will forget all about the crazy city, it’s you surrounded by incredible nature!
